The writting sample, verbal reasoning, physical sciences and biological sciences. Except for the writting sample, all the questions are multiple choice. Unlike most other standardized tests, the MCAT is not graded as a whole. Each section gets its own score. You can't rely on a good score in physical sciences to cover a very poor score in reading comprehension. You have to pass each section. The reading comprehension passages on the MCAT are taken from a variety of disiplines. You won't need to know a lot of outside information to answer the questions posed, but you will need to know how to read the passages and find the informaion you need in them. You will need to practice quick scanning of material, reading for structure of the passage, and scanning for specific information. The writing sample will provide you with an issue, ask you to summarize it and then provide your opinion on the topic, backed up by reasons and evidence. The essays are graded by two graders. There are two essays in each MCAT writting sample. The physical science section covers physics and inorganic chemistry. The material is about the level of first year college or university courses. You can get practice material in many places, including the MCAT Homepage. Practice will give you an idea what topics you should focus on in your review. There are a number of excellent college review books available on both physics and chemistry. The biological science section covers biology and organic chemistry. The material is the quivalent of first year courses as well. The organic chemistry tends to be the most difficult material for many students. It is advisable to take an organic chemistry course before you write the MCAT so you will be familiar with the material.
